SURT: Street Smart Project

Earlier this year together with South Tyneside based organisation SURT (Stop Unsafe Releationships Together) delivered a project that engaged with children and young people at risk of or engaged in ASB and crime. Together both organisations established strong working releationships with Northumbria Police and other agencies.

The second stage of the project was coordinated by SURT Specialists and supported by SURT sponsor Radio Shields. Radio Shields delivered a presentation to the young people about the effectiveness of radio to engage communities. The young people then engaged in additional diversionary activities that were delivered by Radio Shields and SURT staff to support the young people to use their learning to create a radio advert.  The radio advert was developed to be able to raise awareness of ASB, crime and criminal exploitation as well as showcasing the efforts made by young people to support community cohesion and to support and signpost those affected by ASB, crime and criminal exploitation.
