Double Your Defences This Winter

Residents of South Tyneside are being encouraged to grab a jab and double their defences this Winter.

Two walk-in clinics are available over the next few days where eligible people can get a Covid and/or flu jab. The first is on Saturday 19 November between 10am and 4pm and the second is on Monday 21 November from 10am to 3.30pm. Both clinics will be held at St John’s the Baptist church, 25 Nairn Street in Jarrow, NE32 4HX. No appointment is needed. The first and second dose of the Covid vaccine will also be available.

People can have their seasonal booster if it is at least three months since their last dose.

To find out who is eligible for the covid vaccine visit the NHS covid vaccine page. To find out who is eligible for the flu vaccine visit the NHS flu vaccine page. Alternatively you can check with your local pharmacist.

There are a range of walk-in services available across South Tyneside for Covid and flu vaccines. So if you are eligible visit www.getyourjab.uk for further detail.

Councillor Anne Hetherington, Lead Member for Adults, Health, and Independence said: “Now that Winter is upon us, we’re calling on people to double their defences to protect themselves, their loved ones, and their communities.

“It couldn’t be easier. There’s no need to make an appointment at these clinics – just walk in and grab a jab. It will only take a few minutes, but it could save you and those around you from serious illness.”

Local GP Dr Jim Gordon said: “As we approach the winter months extra protection is critical especially for those who are vulnerable. The best way to protect yourself and the people you care about from serious illness is to keep up to date with your jabs and top up your immunity. It is safe to have both vaccines at the same time and having both vaccines will offer the best protection against Covid and flu this winter. So if you are eligible, it would be worth while dropping by to grab a jab and double your defences.”

Vaccines offer the best possible protection against Covid and flu. It is safe to have both at the same time.
