82,415.00 raised at this years Relay for life

This weekend saw the annual Relay for Life in aid of Cancer Research UK. The event is now in it’s 15th year and is organised by fundraiser Ann Walsh from South Tyneside. Relay For Life is a community festival celebrating the power of fundraising in the fight to beat cancer. Teams fundraise for life-saving cancer research then unite at a weekend-long festival to honour everyone who has been affected by cancer.

The Relay started at 11am on Saturday 15th July and continued through till 9am on Sunday 16th July. The grand total raised at this years Relay for Life was £82, 415.00. All monies raised is towards Cancer Research UK and goes to our Newcastle base.

The event is focused around a 24-hour relay where team members take it in turns to walk around a track to show that together we will beat cancer. Live music and activities throughout the 24 hour event took place and on Saturday evening saw the annual Candle of Hope ceremony to honour every life touched by cancer. Dedicating candles to someone no longer with us, a friend or family member living with cancer, a loved one who has survived, or hope for the future – a world where all cancers are cured. Radio Shields was proud to be apart of this event.
