An update on the Rising Sun Farm
Rising Sun Farm is now the responsibility of North Tyneside Council following the Rising Sun Farm Trading Company filing for insolvency.
The Council will now manage the farm on an interim basis until a suitable organisation is found to operate it long-term, creating a thriving community asset in the borough.
In the meantime, Council officers are undertaking a range of site visits to the farm including undertaking condition surveys around the farm to assess repair works required in the short, medium, and longer term.
Additionally, animal welfare officers continue to closely monitor the care of the remaining farm animals.
The public are advised that there will be no small animals at Rising Sun Farm for around three months from next week.
The chickens, geese, ducks and rabbits will be cared for off-site to enable the Council to inspect the barns where they are housed and carry out any remedial works. The donkeys and sheep will continue to live on the farm.
In May 2023, the authority will be inviting expressions of interest from community-based organisations to take over the running of the farm. This will ensure the Council can work with a new provider who will manage the farm and give it the bright future it deserves.
Businesses located at the farm are operating as normal, including Earth and Fire Bakery and Belle and Herbs. The Falconer continues to be based at the farm and the provision of livery services is continuing as normal.
We want to thank you for your patience and continued support over the past few months. We appreciate that these have not been without challenges, and we hope by working together we can push the farm towards the bright future it deserves.
